His Majesty’s Dragon is one of those books I can read over and over again on repeat. It’s the Napoleonic Wars + dragons + a smattering of Jane Austen style regency. (And Temeraire is perhaps the cutest dragon ever, in my personal opinion.)
Navy captain William Laurence stumbles upon a rare dragon egg after taking a French ship and finds himself thrust into the position of dragon captain. He trades sea battles for arial, all the while becoming close friends with his dragon.
This book (and series) is one of my all-time favorites! It’s a 9 book series, but each book is mostly stand-alone (especially the first). Each book takes you through different terrains and introduces mythology and culture from various regions of the world.
Sexual Content: PG-13 (PG for most of it, but there is a suggestive scene or two and an unmarried couple has sex offscreen)
Violence: PG-13. Lots of battles and fighting, but it doesn’t glorify it.
Language: PG-13. There are a few swear words throughout, but it isn’t excessive.
Series content note: The final book in the series does have a sex scene.
