The Alloy of Law (Wax & Wayne #1) is one of my all-time favorite fantasy novels! In a setting reminiscent of the early 1900s, Waxillium Ladrian is enjoying his life as a lawman out in the Roughs when he unexpectedly inherits the title as lord of his house. He leaves behind the life he loves to play at politics and kep his house from financial ruin. But when mysteries pop up pin the city, Wax finds himself using his skills as a lawman to battle a whole different kind of criminal than he’s used to.
This series takes place in the same world as the original Mistborn trilogy, and contains significant spoilers for those books. So, if you don’t like spoilers, you should read those first. (And, honestly, these might make a tad bit more sense if you read the original trilogy first.) But personally, I prefer the Wax & Wayne series over the original trilogy—actually, The Alloy of Law is my favorite of all of Brandon Sanderson’s novels thus far.
Content: PG-13 for violence and language. PG for sexual content, though later books in the series bump it up to PG-13 as romantic subplots become more important.
