What does one do as the Chosen One whose prophecy is fulfilled by someone else before you are out of training?
This is the position Jian, the prophesied hero, finds himself in when his nation’s immortal enemy dies. He and his teacher have to go into hiding to avoid being killed off by politicians who now find him a liability, a threat.
The Art of Prophecy is an Asian-inspired epic fantasy that shows characters from both sides of a long-standing cultural war. This story is great for anyone who wants a book where the line between good and evil is not always clear (though there *is* a clear villain in the story, despite all that).
I will say that there were sometimes when the worldbuilding / prose was a bit confusing. It’s a mild fantasy with some magical elements, but also unique settings. And sometimes it was hard to tell what exactly was happening. For example, there was one time when they were talking about climbing to the top of the grass. I’m not sure if this was grass as thick and sturdy as trees or if it was grass climbed via magic…
Content:
I didn’t write out the content warnings to this one immediately…So hopefully I remember correctly.
Sexual: PG? I don’t remember much romance or sexual tension in this book.
Violence: PG-13. There is a lot of violence and death, but it isn’t too gruesome.
Language: PG-13. I think there were a handful of swear words throughout.
